The British Student National Taekwon-Do Squad is a united, dynamic team open to practitioners of all styles, representing over 50 universities and colleges across the UK. Whether ITF or WT, our squad welcomes all dedicated martial artists currently in higher education.
We train year-round at various locations, preparing for major international championships, with full insurance and free training for all squad members.

Squad Trials & Selection
Each year, we hold open squad trials to discover the next generation of talent. We’re looking for individuals who embody passion, integrity, and potential—not just performance history.
Trials are open to all styles and grades, with ongoing online applications also accepted.
We also scout athletes at official BUTL competitions and events. The squad consists of both current students and alumni (80-20 split), creating a diverse and experienced team environment.

Every squad member gains access to the BUTL Athlete Development Programme—a personalised journey tailored to individual goals.
This includes:
- 1:1 mentoring
- Sport Science Support from our squad Nutritionist, Psychologist and Sport Therapists
- Strength and Conditioning Support
- Progress tracking
All support is completely free of charge, helping athletes thrive both in and out of training.
Performance is recognised through our Reward and Recognition Scheme, celebrating dedication and achievement throughout the year.
