About the event
We at the British University Taekwon-Do League (BUTL) are honoured to welcome and invite you to the 3rd University Taekwon-Do World Championships, taking place at DeMontfort University, Leicester, UK from February 21st-22nd 2026.
For the third time in history, students of Taekwon-Do from around the globe can join together and compete at their very own inclusive World Championship event. Allowing them to represent their schools, clubs, institutions and countries across multiple individual and team events. After the great success of the 1 & 2 University Taekwon-Do World Championships in 2022 & 2024 we are delighted to see the return of this event. The 2024 edition saw University Students from 54 countries attend and compete at the event.
The event will welcome competitors from around the world, ensuring they have the best experience possible. We aim to create an unforgettable championship for all attendees, uniting them together through Taekwon-Do.
As with all of our Championships both International Taekwon-Do Federation (ITF) and World Taekwondo (WT) categories are available. This event is open to ages 17 years and above.
- Friday 20th February 2026 – Optional Event Weight-in after set-up
- Saturday 21st February 2026 – WT Colour Belt and Black Belt Events
- Sunday 22nd February 2026 – ITF Colour Belt and Black Belt Events
We will additionally host a World Championships After Party the evening of Sunday 22nd, free of charge for all coaches, umpires, competitors, volunteers and spectators.
We are excited to welcome you to the return of this historic event, and as we move forward into a new academic year, we wish you all the successes and good health. Together we will continue to elevate University and student Taekwon-Do.
An international standard event
We are delighted to invite you to the 3rd University Taekwon-Do World Championships, taking place from 21st-22nd February 2026.
Across two days of competition the event will see athletes from both WT Taekwondo and ITF Taekwon-Do attend. Each day will have its own unique structure in order to provide a professional and efficient tournament.
The venue will have a 8 matted area ring set up per day for this event.
A world class venue
The Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Centre has an incredible history as a top sporting hub while serving students of Leicester. Currently it’s home to an array of University students and clubs, with the complex hosting many major events across BUTL history including one of the leagues.
With an impressive sports hall, the facility has hosted many large scale competitions and events in its rich history. The sports hall has its own bleacher seating making viewing of the championships possible from all areas.
Competitors will have access to changing rooms, inclusive restrooms, training areas and spaces during the weekend. The facility has full wheelchair access.
A central location
The World Championships venue is centrally located near the city of Leicester. Public transport from the city centre runs to and from the venue, alongside a frequent taxi service.
If traveling by car, there are car park facilities located nearby. By plane, local Airports include East Midlands and Birmingham Airports. Additional Airports include Manchester, Luton and London Heathrow.
