Since 2017, the National Student Championships has stood as the ultimate stage for university and alumni athletes across the UK and Ireland — showcasing world-class talent, thrilling competition, and the true spirit of Taekwon-Do. Open to all UK and Irish university students and alumni, the Nationals brings together fighters from all Taekwon-Do styles under one roof — with team events, individual matchups, and a huge, fully-matted competition area that sets the scene for one of the most prestigious events in the calendar.
Taking place every two years (alternating World Championships), the Nationals welcomes competitors from over 60 institutions across England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland, and the Republic of Ireland — a landmark achievement in the university martial arts scene. Whether you’re a first-time competitor or a seasoned black belt, the event delivers a fair, inclusive, and electrifying experience for all levels and grades.
2025 Recap — 10th Anniversary Edition
The 10th Anniversary National Student Championships, held in February 2025 at Leicester’s iconic Mattioli Arena, was a record-shattering celebration of university Taekwon-Do. This landmark event saw a historic 448 competitors from 62 universities, making it the largest Nationals in BUTL history.
Featuring nine competition rings and, for the first time ever, an elevated showcase ring, the 2025 Nationals pushed the boundaries of the university martial arts experience — giving top athletes the spotlight they deserve and spectators a truly unforgettable show.
